This video is my contribution to the Edukey webinar series and was filmed on 21st/23rd April 2020 in response to the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) school closures and the role of SENCOs during this period.
Over the two days over 2600 individuals from around the world tuned in!

Edukey gave permission for my part in the webinar to be isolated and presented on my own channel.

About the SENsible SENCO..

Who am I? Abigail Hawkins was a classroom teacher and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator for more than 20 years. During her time in education she has been a teacher in a wide variety of settings within special educational needs and across age ranges 2 to adult. Whilst originally training as a science teacher, she has spent the majority of her teaching career supporting children with specific learning needs including poor literacy skills and special educational needs. Abigail Hawkins has also had many other hats across the years include Co-ordinator for Pupil Premium (PP), English as an additional Language (EAL), Looked after Children (LAC), Family Learning, Assessment, (a whole variety of subjects including Science, Literacy, DT, IT, History, Music and Maths), Designated Safeguarding Lead, Chief First-Aider and NQT Mentor. The only mainstream subject to have not appeared on her timetable (within primary, secondary or FE) at some point has been...nope, can't think of one, although SLT once regretted asking her to teach art to 9-year-olds!

Now a founder of the chartered college of teacher, Abigail Hawkins (FCCT) is one of only 750 teachers with this status in the country, but what is the Chartered College of Teaching? I hear you say...

“The Chartered College of Teaching is the professional body for teachers. We are working to celebrate, support and connect teachers to take pride in their profession and provide the best possible education for children and young people. We are dedicated to bridging the gap between practice and research and equipping teachers from the second they enter the classroom with the knowledge and confidence to make the best decisions for their pupils.”

This just proves how dedicated Abigail is to improving SEND education standards across the country. Who else would spend every Wednesday and Thursday night recording and editing a new educational video?

SENDCO Solutions is a company designed around the need of the SENCO, ensuring new SENDCOs are fully supported through our social media and YouTube channels. At the moment we are looking to see what type of video engages best with our audience, PowerPoint presentation, video blogging or something else. The educational market has proven to be a difficult area to gain ground on for YouTube viewers.

SENDCO Solutions also offers full school SEN reviews, plus a wide number of other benefits to schools, included discounted SEN resources/products through our partner scheme. We are also available for SEND CPD teacher training for both primary, secondary and further educational schools/colleges within England.

Many of our videos are based on educational topics or specific learning difficulties and at the time of recording the information is correct. We do vigorously monitor our YouTube channel and if we are aware of incorrect information, we will endeavour to correct this as soon as possible. Having educational support for SENDCOs is a little pointless if your information is our of date!

The SENsible SENCO is available to answer your education-based questions through either the comments box at the bottom of this video or through our social media Facebook (be sure to answer the questions for acceptance) or Twitter channels, please see below.
