The first televised political debate was between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon for the 1960 election. Richard Nixon was leading in the polls before the debate, but Kennedy was such a better looking dude and had TV charisma, plus Nixon was all sweaty and messy in the debate and eventually lost the election.
