If anyone sees this. DO NOT SHUT DOWN YOUR PS5 ON YOUR PORTAL, PUT IT TO REST MODE. I went to another country and was playing very smoothly with it, when I went to sleep i clicked shut down on the PlayStation, and then turned off my portal, when I woke up in the morning, it wouldn’t connect, I had to call my step dad which luckily hadn’t come yet to turn it back on

Am I the only one that leave my ps5 in rest mode 24/7 unless I’m playing it? lol. Everyone keeps saying “all I have to do is leave it in rest mode”. Like yall don’t always do that? Lol

It depends on the person, I travel alot so I will buy it, all have to do is leave my ps5 in rest mode and Im able to play my games even on the over side of the earth

All you need to do is plug an ethernet cable into your ps5. Create two channels one for 5g and one for 2.4. Connect only ps5 and maybe something else that needs the 5g and everything else on the 2.4. It will play perfectly.

I feel the same. I was excited at first but then it just got frustrating. It has 1 job. And when it can’t do that perfectly, I got a problem with that.

I almost thought I had bought this under all the right conditions. Good Wifi, slower paced games like JRPGs to enjoy instead of fast paced 3d action titles, and a solid library/backlog to justify it - but then I tried chiaki on my steam deck and realized that ran just as well if not better and faster somehow.

👎🏻 I play my PS5 so much more than I used to now that I have the Portal. I know I'm not alone. It performs great too. I'm not sure why people drag it for only being a streaming device. Sony never said it was anything more than that. I love it.

I love my edge controller. Considering I use it every time I play, I’d argue it offers more value than a portal.

I got this yesterday, and it looks like sony made some significant updates. For one, I have not experienced any artifacting, lag or noticeable loss in performance on my home wifi (which is really good). It's smooth and of course doesn't look as good as it does on my tv on my ps5 pro, but it's great for when I'm wanting to just lay in bed and play something instead of sitting on the couch in the livingroom. When I'm playing it remotely at work or something using wifi or my hotspot, there's a noticable drop in quality, and it's pretty blurry with some artifacting, but there's no lag. It's just kind of ugly.

I don't have ps+ so I haven't tried remote play, but if the quality is as bad as it is when connecting through a remote wifi, then it's kind of not worth it.

I mainly bought this to play in bed, not while traveling, so it does the job. I'd rather spend $200 on this than $500 on another PS5. As long as the games are crisp and beautiful on my local wifi network, I'm pleased.

If you want to know if the portal works for you, just try streaming to your phone first.

If that works, this works. If that does not work, it won’t.

Best 200 ive spent. The dad station is great!! I recommend to all the dads out there that want to continue gaming. This review doesnt give the dad station enough credit! When he said " why does this exist?" That shows you right there he just doesnt get it. Dads unite!

The Steam deck is better value. It can play both PlayStation games and Xbox games. You can also use remote and cloud play from the PS5 on the Steam deck. You can also use emulators to play the classic PlayStation games.

Now its a streaming device. I hardly use the remote play service and use the streaming in it.

Even 6 months ago I would have said this video aged poorly, and was looking to be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian.
Anecdotal obviously, but I got my portal back in Jan and have loved it since day 1, despite the occasional stutter. Its usage case worked for me.
Now with all the updates, you prob should revisit the portal.
