What compromises will Russia and Ukraine make to end the war? | Inside Story

Russian and Ukrainian negotiators have held a fourth round of face-to-face talks in Turkey to try and end five weeks of war.

Ukraine is offering to declare its neutrality in return for security guarantees and discuss the status of the annexed region of Crimea.

Russia's military says it will reduce activity around Kyiv and Chernihiv.

Although previous talks have failed, is a breakthrough possible this time?

I'm not sure how these security guarantees are supposed to work. Wouldn't they need to be provided for by a country or countries that are willing to go to war with Russia in order to uphold the security guarantees if Russia invades Ukraine. Doesn't that pretty much rule out all of the countries that are most logistically capable of enforcing any security guarantees i.e. NATO.

Ukraine never ever in her history followed a signed agreement. In Ukrainian political tradition treat any agreement just as a basis for new negotiations.

Russia never demanded Ukrainian surrender - at least official position on the war did not change & only concession made (if it was even a big deal) is for Ukraine to be able to eventually join EU. No other shift occurred. None.
