Edmund Scientific Deluxe Moiré Patterns

While cleaning out my office I found a box of photocopies I’d made from an Edmund Scientific moiré transparency kit. I thought they’ed make a nice grungy video.

To go with the rescanning aesthetic I recorded the Intellijel Cascadia several times through a Yamaha MT100 4-track. I recorded onto the MT100 at high speed, into the DAW at normal speed, sped and pitched it up, then recorded it back onto the MT100 and repeated it over again.

I recorded the same mono track from Cascadia onto 2 tracks of the MT100 with gain at different levels, so one would be more blown out than the other. In the DAW, I put each channel on different instances of Softube’s ‘Tape Echos’ with the channels reversed on one of them, creating a slight panning in opposite directions.

I don’t believe I have the transparencies anymore, though I have the formulas to make them. I think I’m going to try to make some kind of animated moiré something.
