In this video, we'll be exploring Tepito which is rated as the most dangerous area in Mexico City. I was curious to see if it's really as bad as the locals and media make it seem.

An interesting fact about Tepito Market is that it’s been there since the Aztecs were around. Also, the stuff they sell was not all stolen from other people. Tepito is known for selling counterfeit goods, which means fake or knockoff products. That’s mostly what they sell.

I don’t think a Canadian (or any foreign) tourist should provide a POV on safety of a neighborhood unless they’ve lived in Mexico for a very long time, this video could be doing more harm to than told

Native mexican here. As you said on the end, Tepito is big, I mean BIG. You are on the "safe" part of Tepito, the most comercial area. I go there 2 or 3 times every month to buy stuff and ive never been robbed. There are the most dangerous parts where people sell the really freaky stuff like drugs, guns, etc. Thats where you definetly dont wanna go.

Mexico City has been decreasing levels of violence since 2019, today it is one of the safest cities on the continent, although it is undervalued (as is the case with Buenos Aires and Sau Paulo). There is tons of work to do, but we're working on it.

I am currently in Mexico City from the USA for the first time and a solo traveler and do not speak Spanish. I found that the locals are super friendly and the tourist areas are safe. I don’t know why a lot of bad news about Mexico, maybe because of the drug cartels and US politicians and the media. Generally, Mexico is a tourist-friendly place from what I am experiencing.

I’m a native mexican with 41 years old. I’ve lived in Mexico City all of my life, and I never had walked into Tepito. That place is dangerous, period. Glad you guys were ok, but promoting that area is a really bad idea.

I just came back from Mexico City and while there walked all of these markets and felt very safe. Lots of people, and lots of police. Used the Metro trains, the cable cars and walked to every place. For excursions to see the volcanoes, and the pyramids I used their public transport buses - very inexpensive and comfortable. Used Uber from and to the airport. Drank at a crowded Pulqueria. Had a fantastic time, and the people are just fantastic. A great place to visit for sight seeing and acquainting with the culture. Definitely not for the beach & margarita types.

I was there alone at various times. It was a warning in the tourist books to not to go there, that's why I took it as a challenge. I loved it, so many things I bought in this market. 🥳

I travelled through many areas when I visited last year . I even stumbled into this neighbourhood. Personally? I could see it was a bit on the dodgy side but I'm english and I grew up in a bad area so I know how to read the people and neighbourhood quickly . Honestly ? I have felt more uncomfortable walking through parts of London. I cant say I felt.unsafe in Mexico city at all. In fact I'm going back in a month

OMG! That area is a big no no to go, even as a Mexican, LOL. I'm glad you were safe!

I think I walked through there by accident. I think the worst part of Mexico City was the neighborhood where all the prostitutes hang out. Near the Basilica. That was shocking and disgusting.

I am Mexican, 38 years old, I have lived almost all my life close to Cdmx or inside Cdmx. That being said, I have only been in Tepito like 3 o 2 times. More than dangerous, Tepito is ugly and uncomfortable to walk in, so I don't see why someone would want to go there. I know some friends that go there just to drink... like for fun... but nah, I don't see the allure to be in this place when there are better options if you want to have fun and still be safe. But hey, you do you.

Bring a dummy wallet and a dummy phone. They sell dummy phones on eBay for 5 bucks, it's a plastic or aluminum chassis with a plastic screen of sorts.

You wouldn’t necessarily be a target because you blend in just right. You are darker skin and don’t exactly look like a tourist.
