I once sang this at a karaoke evening in a pub. By the end of my performance, the entire audience was singing "ERRRNIE, and he drove the fasted milk cart in the West". My own singing was awful, but the point was that everybody of a certain age knew this song and it tapped in to their memories and made them smile. That is quite a legacy for Benny Hill to have left

What an absolute masterpiece. It only has four chords: C, A min F and G7 but it’s the lyrics that are so amazing. I like the ‘ sound continuity errors ‘ with the whip! BennyHill was a real talent and won a Novello Award for this song. Brilliant in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, fluent in French and a comic genius. ITV treated him very badly. The ‘pasteurised’ joke gets me every time.

Thank you much for that clip. I was born in 1962 and loved Benny Hill and this is the first time I have seen this clip. A genius, not only with his delivery but such talent with the words he used.
