Released : 1985
Genre : Electronic
Style : Disco

' Gap Band VI ' is the eighth album (contrary to the title) by The Gap Band, released in 1984 on Total Experience Records. It was originally intended to be lead singer Charlie Wilson's first solo album, and the first Gap Band album released under Total Experience's new distribution deal with RCA Records. The album reached #1 on the Black Albums chart for 2 weeks in March 1985. In October 29, 2012 the remastered and expanded album including 5 bonus tracks was released by Big Break Records.

The Gap Band was an American R&B and funk band that rose to fame during the 1970s and 1980s. The band consisted of three brothers Charlie, Ronnie, and Robert Wilson; and it was named after streets (Greenwood, Archer, and Pine) in the historic Greenwood neighborhood in the brothers' hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The group shortened its name to The Gap Band in 1973. After 43 years together, they retired in 2010.

This is a diss track about Prince because a couple of GAP band members were kicked out of an after party that Prince had thrown

Having seen the entire video many times now, it comes across as less of a diss track against Prince and more of a "Hey Prince try to be nicer next time to your fans", since going by the animation and whatever story there is, the Prince character ends up signing the little girl's notebook and giving the thumbs up to the Gap Band.

I think this is my favorite diss track cause you don't KNOW it's a diss track until you learn the story and mostly cause the music is so damn good you forget about the feud. Wish recent songs that were diss tracks focused more on being good music than the overall feuds that end up becoming dated later on when the artists end up moving on or becoming friends.

It would be great to know who put in the work to animate this.

I still LOL as a kid watching it on BET and thinking it was just a cool video by a group that I love. FastForward to being an adult and learning that it was created and directed towards that other artist that I love just as much due to a typical kind of beef. LOL... very creative for a video at that time and the song is just as funky now as it was back then...Love it!

I had stacks of VHS tapes filled with Friday Night Videos and MTV recordings. This video was one of my favorites.

You're not playing with the Gap Band. Great song. Put Prince in his place for a moment.
