French singer-songwriter Charles Aznavour wrote and recorded "Yesterday When I Was Young" in 1964 as "Hier Encore". The English lyrics were written by Herbert Kretzmer and this version of the song was originally recorded by Roy Clark in 1969. This 2008 version by Aznavour and Elton John was recorded for Aznavour's "Duos" album. Listening to Elton John sing in French was interesting! It has also been recorded by numerous other artists including Jack Jones, Mel Torme, Andy Williams, Lena Horne, Johnny Mathis, Shirley Bassey, Marc Almond and Dusty Springfield. Enjoy! Ah. It's so nice viewing some of my favorite leading men. Love the young and older pictures. Perfect song choice. It's interesting hearing Elton John singing in French.

Legendary Charles Aznavour... Always loved him. I grew up on his and other French artists' songs in 1970s in the former Soviet Union. It's very nostalgic.
