The Big Money was the song that got me into Rush. Saw their music video on MTV, and was intrigued by their sound and their lyrics. Been one of my all-time favorite bands ever since. I consider myself blessed to have have had the opportunity to see them play live several times, and they were definitely one of the best live acts around.

Neil Peart, who wrote most of the RUSH lyrics, was always a deep thinker and was not afraid to voice his opinions. Alex and Geddy wrote most of the music to fit the lyrics. It's like they could hear what Neil was trying to say and they knew instinctively how to prep it and punch it to get your attention. It was always a symbiosis that ended in a symphony. I miss the "Professor", may he rest in peace.

Watching Rush play is like watching 3 musicians all doing a solo at the same time yet still sounding good together.

One of the things that make Rush a great band was the changes in the style and music over the years. The were never in a box. This was the first tour i saw them on when I was in high school.

Y’all should consider editing/re-uploading todays 3 videos as the sound is unlistenable.
What a bummer.

Neil Peart's lyrics are just as incredible as his drumming!

Aside from the audio problems, I want to say that I don't understand how you two have reacted to so many great Rush songs but have NOT reacted to one of the band's greatest songs "2112" from the album of the same name. It's a long song, but it's SO entertaining and tells such a wild story that the time flies by. 2112 is a classic song from a classic album, the album that made the band famous. ❤☺✌

In the early 80's, Rush became intrigued w/ the new keyboard technology... Geddy Lee in particular was fascinated w/ the music he could create without limitations of tuning and finding a sound - suddenly, anything u wanted to play came out of a keyboard in tune. That enabled him to write the albums 'Signals' in 1982 and subsequently 'Grace under pressure' in 1984... songs w/ layers of keyboards.
Neil Peart (drums) was also fascinated w/ electronic samples and beats that he would incorporate w/ the music... The only one who took issue was guitarist Alex Lifeson, who later complained that the keyboards were drowning out his guitars - Once Geddy had the music written, it was more difficult for Alex to find places where his guitar would fit in the overall sound... He was supportive and tried to enhance his own guitars w/ pedals and effects to blend in w/ Rush's new electronic sound... However, he was less than pleased w/ the 1985 album 'Power windows' - the first single being 'The big money'... Lee felt that it was the perfect balance between rock music and synthesizers... while Lifeson felt that the band overdid it.

Rush fans were also grumbling that their once-progressive rock band was now playing 80's synth pop music... but they stayed loyal and every Rush record in the 80's sold gold in the US (half million copies)
Things came to a head in 1987 w/ the album 'Hold your fire'... despite going gold, even Neil Peart felt that the band had gone too far musically to a light, jazzier left field w/ that record. In 1989, Alex Lifeson finally had enough and demanded one concept: No more keyboards!
Lee and Peart were like, "Okay, we can do that."
Lee admitted that he was sad to end that part of the band's experimentation because writing music on keyboards was a natural, easy thing for him... as opposed to writing on guitar or bass. Afterwards, Rush incorporated more guitars on the albums 'Presto' (1989) and 'Roll the bones' (1991)

80s Rush finally! Gotta listen to Red Sector A, masterfully written and performed

That was from Power Window's from 1985. Another great 80's song from Rush is The Pass from the 1989 album, Presto. Show, Don't Tell and the song, Presto are also very good.

Signals and Power Windows are both master works of music, lyrics, melodies, and groove. They just kicked fire in the 80's for!!!

Power Windows is an awesome album. They were at the top of their game at this time. I saw the Buffalo concert in 85. Unbelievable!
