Written by C. Spencer Mourant and Charles Glover, "The Rose of Tralee" is a nineteenth-century Irish ballad about a woman called Mary, who because of her beauty was called The Rose of Tralee. The Rose of Tralee International Festival had been inspired by the ballad. Although this song was famously sung by John McCormack, Richard Tauber gives a wonderful performance in a recording made on May 25, 1938.

It‘s so beautiful how Tauber uses his ample interpretational skills as well as his exquisite mezza voce quality... conjuring up a painting coloured in music.. 🌹⭐️🌹
Thank you for the wonderful post! 🙏🍀

Thank you Mike, a beautiful version of an iconic Irish song. I have very fond memories of holidays in Tralee.

Another lovely video Mike and doesn't Richard sing it wonderfully. Like John McCormack he had a uniquely beautiful way of using his voice and interpreting the music. I wonder if they ever met.

The girl in the opening picture is Liselott Jeromin, to whom Tauber was briefly engaged in 1923.
Perhaps one with Mary Losseff, his partner from 1929 to 1934/5, would have been more appropriate.
1938 was the year in which Tauber left Austria for the last time, toured Australia, and made his operatic debut at Covent Garden
