Given the right context THERE IS a way you can do a reverse grip. Seppuku

The reverse grip does have one niche use: countering long spears.

This one Italian swordsman named Achilles came up with it.

There are even times for the reverse grip. I use it while grappling and for a couple different blocks that involve switching hand positions to take a stroke.

It’s super situational and only for a second- but a second is a long time in a sword fight.

Three things happen every second or you’re too slow.

I love how the concept of reverse gripping swords probably came up because with short bladed weapons like knives and daggers reverse grip and actually be a better way to wield it depending in the exact situation so fiction takes this and its like if its good for knives whats even better make the knife a sword
