The height of the bamboo isn't the issue, it's the fact that it travels across your property line and takes over your neighbor's yard... as somebody who previously had a neighbor with "pretty bamboo".

We use a wall of sugarcane, papaya, coconut, and mango trees. Carefully planted and cultivated by my mum. It surrounds the sides and back like a fence. It’s non invasive, inexpensive, and not only pretty to look it, but good to eat. The only problem is when it’s season and half my neighbors are salivating for the goods. We live in Florida.

As long as the bamboo stays on Dakota’s property, it isn’t an issue. However, if those bamboo roots wreak havoc on her neighbor’s property, she’ll find herself contending with legal fees and costs she’ll wish she had avoided. There are many ways to avoid that problem and maintain her privacy. She’d be wise to consider them before it’s too late.

Bamboo is invasive, & spreads from roots, which if they start spreading from under the fence, your neighbours will have giant headaches. Besides, to tell us on the internet they can 'just shove it' is not very smart or diplomatic.

Bamboo can be planted safely if contained in thick plastic to a depth of about 4 feet in the ground. I have had bamboo in my yard for about 15 years and it is not spreading at all.

As a south east Asian, I can tell how invasive bamboo is. We eat all the bamboo shoots and yet they find a way to spread it's territory. And it's roots are very strong and firm. We call it knife destroyer.

This is why living in neighborhoods full of rich people sucks. There’s nothing worse than having a dispute with the neighbor because they will never go away.

Bamboos are extremely invasive grower. They can grow through almost everything, bricks, concrete etc. it’s really bad if you have neighbors with bamboo alone the property line and don’t manage the plants well.
