Su30 is the same for India as F15 is for US. A total air superiority fighter. It's upgraded versions will continue to serve for many decades.

Su30 is not bad aircraft.

Su30 was the machine with which India tested all its home made weapons and tested them extensively.

The key is to understand that machine and exploit it for our needs which India did amazingly.

Indegenious content of Su30 is more than JF17.

Su30 still has its potential and it's own role in the future too.

After the super sukhoi upgrade, each su30 mki will be comparable to Chinese J16. As of now the su30's lack in radars, avionics and other internal things, they are outdated. But SU30 itself is a very capable fighter, have a very good carrying capacity and a great range and combat capabilities. It can carry missiles like brahmos and can easily act as a refueling aircraft and an missile truck. We just need to update the internals, and it will be good as new.

The upgraded su30 will be an equally a beast as Rafale. The strength of su30 was it crazy payload. That of Rafale is electronics. Whoever envisioned brahmos integration on su30 was thinking far far ahead. If we think about it, it's only now that we have seen supersonic/hypersonic cruise/quazi ballistic missiles being launched from an fighter jet.
Coupled that with updated electronics, man it's a very deadly overhaul. It will be on par with j16 atleast. Assuming all Chinese claims are true.
Only thing that leaves to be desired is to reduce its massive RCS.

Sir, is it possible that Indian airforce will achieve approx 42 squadrons by 2040 if Tejas mk2 will also be procured in same number or more as like Tejas mk1a. Like :-

Sir also as far as Su30MKI is concerned, there are some pretty expensive technologies which are going to be integrated on the platform, which won't be there on the MK1A. It is to note that the radar will be comprehensively more powerful and hence, expensive. The EW suite much more powerful. Sir you also reported about India indigenously improving the AL-31 as well.

Just wanted to add this too alongside your brilliant explanation of Capex vs Opex expenses.

SU 30 MKi if upgraded correctly will become nightmare for anyone who dares to look at India with bad intentions. Tejas fighters are no doubt less expensive but are not full sized fighters and cost reflects that. Jai Bharat 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳☝️😊
