Love this list! I definitely want to check out some more non-SFF titles this year, so I am adding some of these to my TBR! Especially excited to get to Just Mercy, it sounds really impactful and eye-opening.
And I agree that Anxious People was just a delight to read, I enjoyed that one so much! :)

Oooh def interested in Just Mercy as I watched and absolutely loved the film. It is so powerful and heart breaking that it is true and the pain people are going through, the injustice and it is just one story of the many out there. Thanks for recommending xx

I'm so glad you loved The Road. It's one of my favorites from 2021. I'm currently reading My Best Friend's Exorcism. Really loving it so far. Also love Carrie & that copy of the book you're holding up 😍

Always love the best books of the year video. Enjoyed hearing your thoughts on all of these, Jessie. Definitely want to read The City of Girls this year. It sounds wonderful and definitely unlike anything I've ever read before ☺

Bought "Just Mercy" for my Kindle now :) "The Girl with the Louding Voice" I also got on my Kindle the other day, after Jack Edwards recommended it

My two favorites from 2021 were actually both non SFF, Daisy Jones and the Six, as well as Imaginary Friend! Both now top 10 all time favorite books for me! I’m trying to get Allen to read Imaginary Friend, I told him October would be a perfect month!

Just tagged The Road in Libby. I loved emotional reads. Saving that for a later date

Great video! I have so many books and added Home going to my 2022 TBR, thank you for the reminder! :)

I read Dream Daughter in 2021 because of your recommendation and praise for the book, it was really good! Non-spoiler, I like how real events from the future was woven into the story.

I see you with your lovely new into and soft, pretty aesthetic in your video. 💕 Ah yes, The Road. Devastatingly beautiful. If you liked the way time travel was handled in The Dream Daughter, I’d recommend Kindred by Octavia Butler. Time travel is an important vehicle for an emotionally impactful story, but it’s not the focus.

Of the ones you mentioned, I have read The Dream Daughter and My Best Friend's Exorcism and loved both. Some of my favorite books from last year were Creep and Freak by Jennifer Hillier and For Your Own Good by Samantha Downing. Those are the two I can think of at the moment.

Yeah, the scary thing in The Mist (I've only watched the movie, haven't read the Stephen King story) was the way normal people treated each other. Though the monsters were scary too.

Good info about Homegoing. It’s on my TBR. My favorite non-SFF of the year was Born a Crime by Trevor Noah.

After I read Just Mercy, I watched the author’s Ted Talk calked “We Need to talk about an injustice” on YouTube, so good. Such an inspirational man. I watched the movie which was good but book so much more comprehensive.
