Your trachea -- in the upper respiratory tract -- is lined by a pseudo-stratified columnar epithelium with goblet cells.
There are no alveoli in the conducting zone (therefore no gas exchange, therefore, it's a dead space).
Your respiratory zone contains 2 types of lung cells (pneumocytes):
- Type 1 pneumocytes: squamous epithelium, for gas exchange.
- Type 2 pneumocytes: cuboidal epithelium, for secreting surfactant...It's also a stem cell responsible for regeneration.
