True scale of Assad’s slaughter revealed at Syrian mass grave

His prisons held hundreds of thousands of people: relentlessly tortured and abused, many of them did not survive.

But since Bashar Al-Assad fell from power - the full horror of the regime's crimes is being revealed. Syria was largely cut off to journalists during his 24 years in power.

But now the daunting task of documenting Assad's atrocities can begin: starting with the country's mass graves. Including one where around 150 thousand people may have been buried.

101 000 people were killed during the Bosnian war. Which means, a single mass grave of the Assad regime, contains more people than were killed in one of the worst genocidal wars in recent memory. That puts into perspective what the Assad regime was.

At least a million syrians lost their lives. You guys have no idea what that government did from 2010 till now. In 2011/2012 I still was in Syria. I lived in Homs right on the opposite side of the university of al baath. I saw the neighborhoods that supported Assad's regime launch so many rockets and bombs from their territories into Baba Amr (a neighborhood from the opposition) and they literally flattened 85% of it down to the ground. We used to smell the burnt hair and nails of those who where apprehended by the militias. They burnt them at the medical facility of the baath university. The smell of burnt hair and nails is still stuck in my head. I saw people get hit with bombs and disappear into thin air. I got shot at so many times trying to film what happened. I will never forget what that government did.

Communist dictatorship ended in my country at 1990. We still have missing bodies from the executed detained people. And my country was a little one compared to Syria. The dictatorships are always inhuman and ugly.
