Throwback to the 3rd session of this year Classe d'Excellence on January 20 with this interview of the cellist Gautier Capuçon.

The Classe d’Excellence de Violoncelle returns to the Fondation Auditorium for a fifth season.

This project, created and directed by Gautier Capuçon, is designed to promote six young and talented cellists from around the world and give them expert direction in perfecting their skills. The 2018-2019 winners, selected by audition, meet each month in the Auditorium for public work sessions and concerts.

This year, in a new development, the project offers the budding artists a complete session with orchestra in January 2019. With support from the orchestra of Le Conservatoire National de Musique et de Danse de Paris, each young cellist is assigned a movement from one of Joseph Haydn’s two concertos for cello and orchestra, to be practiced and performed under the guidance of Nicolas Chalvin and Gautier Capuçon as co-conductors.

Each year for the past three years, the Classe d’Excellence de Violoncelle project has provided an opportunity to commission a work for seven cellos. This year, composer Krzysztof Penderecki was invited to create this piece; his work will be premiered at the closing concert on Saturday, 29 June 2019.
