You are a skilled presenter. I really don't care anything about shoes, but your presentation kept me interested from start to finish.

Hi TRP. With a few mates I arrived in the USA from New Zealand in early 1976, training and racing as we headed towards the 76 Olympics in Montreal. Nike Waffle shoes were "taking off" and we purchased a few. Tested them in the Utah mountains at 7000 ft. on the forest tracks. Us plebs always had to pay for the damn things though. LOL. So we ended up wearing the irridescent green Adidas. Fat lot of good they did us though. Oh well, such is the running life. Cheers for another great production.

A video comparing the greats of running to other sports that would be cool

It's amusing to me how one pair auctioned for so much partly because it's never been worn, and another pair precisely because it had been worn.

Very much worth noting and thanks again for another entertaining video.
This perspective showed us how a humble leap forward in shoe technology can
lead to faster times and fewer injuries. A minimalistic yet beneficial breakthrough
in shoe design sparked a running revolution, producing a new generation of runners.
In 1974, when running cross country and track in high school, I bought a $30. pair of
the iconic yellow and green Nike Oregon Waffle Trainers. Felt like I was on the moon.

Funny to say, but a few weeks ago I made a task about the history of the Vaporflys and Nike shoes. But to be honest, your explanation is way better and more detailed. Big thumbs up for that!

Some 40+ years ago, when running was my primary form of conditioning, I wore Nike Elites, which weren't much different from these waffle shoes, only more refined in their manufacture. Track shoes for the street, so to speak, with little more than a thin layer of padding above the flat, noduled rubber sole, and a nylon shell. This was before the advent of all the technological advances, including the heavy heel-cup, which in my opinion misleads the uninitiated into thinking that heel-landing is proper form.I guess I'm an old fogey, because I still favor the minimalist approach to shoe design. I even prefer moccasins to sneakers. Hell, even Abebe Bikila won the 1968 Mexico City Olympic marathon running barefoot. Vapor Air? Bah humbug!

My Next%s at $225 seem like an absolute steal compared to those. Great video as always!

@TRP He actually didn’t use the waffle iron. He couldn’t get the rubber off! So, with some help, he was able to make a mould and then came up with the shoes. Nevertheless, he was inspired by waffle iron.

If you spend $437, 000.00 on a pair of shoes when little kids are dying from hunger then something is wrong with you and God will remember that come judgment day.
