If im not mistaken, You dont tell the compiler but the cpu. Its just the LSB of the address .. if its 1 then its thumb mode .. but the cpu still exeuctes from the "even address" as it has to be aligned (even address)

I could be wrong; it’s been a while since doing thumbv7, but isn’t it that The lsb needs set on the address, so adding one doesn’t always guarantee that without knowing the starting address(if you took a thumb address and added 1 it would not be thumb). Bitwise OR that bit instead maybe?

I don't think thumb mode is meaningfully lower power. The processor is literally translating your short instructions back to long instructions. The closest thing I can find online says the reduced ram reads might provide some power savings, but that seems small.
