That´s pretty damn close, the, the u87 sounds a bit more opened and balanced imo

Wish they made more dynamic microphones in that range, Shure sm7b and the electrovoice RE20 are my only options

When you engaged the EQ the u87 emulation sounded very close to the real one🔥🔥

You MUST compare with the Townsend labs sphere L22!! Keep up the good work. Cheers, from Portugal.

hello i have the ml 1 and i hear a small lack of bottom end on the emulations making them just a bit brighter and harsher (i also hear that on your test when you song "running for my life") .but for the price ml 1 is still a really good value, and i ll buy the u87 emulation (i asked slate for that one) :-)

Awesome to know. I'm using an NT1 for now until I get a clue of what a good next step will be.

The UA7I is cleaner but it's slightly close

I own this and the townsend labs and I HAVE to say, Townsend Labs blows this out of the water. Great video as always.

There's a definite difference between the two. It doesn't appear often, but I feel when you do your little run, the difference in the most noticible. Worth the $2600 difference though? maybe

For my ears, there are totally different sounding 😅the slate one sounds brighter and the saturation sounds quite digital. Your original U87 sounds smoother especially above 3k Hz moreover its much warmer than the slate one. For a $500 product, it was sounds good on this price range. If you feel your U87 sounds the same as Slate one, you may sold you U87 immediately right😊?

I think I could hear some difference, maybe just placebo effect, idk, but both mics sounded amazing

Do I hear a difference? Yes. Apart from the tonal variance and harsher top end. Listen to how they handle the dynamics of your voice. Listen especially to the second time you sing "life". The 87ai keeps everything together nicely and sounds very cohesive and balanced while the Slate mic produces an uneven unbalanced sound in comparison. It really sounds like a clean modern mic with an emulation layer on top of it. Which is not strange, because that's what it is. Not a bad mic though.

I've used both the ML-1 and the Townsend Labs and they are both good mics, but not for me. They will both get you in the ballpark of the mics they are trying to emulate. But after a while all I hear is variations of the same mic. They can not mimic the entirety of them. Which is understandable.
But most importantly I really dislike having too many options and leaving decisions for later. Might seem like a wonderful idea to have all these different emulations to choose from, but for me it's mostly a burden.

Could you compare the NEUMANN U 87 Ai STUDIO with the same Chinese pop, thank you very much

It’s a great mic! I use it on a lot of projects, especially vocals. However, I find myself not using the software included. Love the natural sound without it and adding my own chain. It sounds out of place when using a preamp with a particular sound
