This will never grow old. This is what we should pass down to the generations below. We still sing this at baptism because it reminds us of the commitment we've made to God in the presence of others.

A old black man at my church would always sing this at baptisms and he recently passed away and at the service they played a recording of him sing take me to the water the pastors wife said we couldn’t think of anyone else better to sing at his service than himself also I didn’t know how many verses there were he only sang 1, 2&3

Thank you for this song. There is nothing like good-ole hymns. Remind me attending church service with my great grandparents & grandmother. However, my current church home still sing hymns and I ❤ everything about it. New is good, but that old gets deep down in the soul. 🙏🏽

Thank you so much for this rendition. Some of us musicians don't realize this is a Negro Spiritual. I didn't myself, but I knew the original timing was like this. We keep trying to take this timing away. I've played for five churches in my 60 yr tenure and every church sings it differently. Gonna share. I just love it, brought tears to my eyes. We have to respect the original timing because I'm sure it was sung Acapella when it was sung for the first time. Can't you imagine our people walking to a river or pond to baptize. Probably one of the few freedoms they had or maybe a slave master was standing nearby with shotgun in hand. I'm so glad my play brother wrote that he was going to the church to prepare the baptizing pool for tomorrow. Otherwise, I would have never looked up "Take Me to the Water". My friend, your version was the first one on YouTube and I selected it. Keep on keeping on my young brother, you actually look too young to have experienced this old hymn in this fashion but however you acquired your knowledge, I thank God for it! Blessings!
