TaxSlayer Review: My Least Favorite For Simple Tax Returns

I prefer taxslayer over TurboTax. To me, me TurboTax ask way too many questions. The first time I ever filed as an independent I used TurboTax The next year I filed. I use tax lawyer this year. I tried to use text layer again but it said refunds weren't available for my state at the moment so I used TurboTax in. It was so annoying because I did not like all the questions it had to ask me. So I create an account with taxact and that's what I will try next year

Might be a PROBLEM there. I have used TaxSlayer for many years. I have to include EITC and child tax credits. TaxSlayer handled them both at no charge. ALSO, I have not gotten any third party promotional emails or texts from them. Be sure you are doing a fair review.

Don't misunderstood, Logan. I love your videos and the fact that you are a CPA. Many YouTubers that do stimulus updates are not and answer tax and accounting questions incorrectly. So thanks.

As you're reviewing the pros and cons of the free versions of these preparation software, you fail to mention that most if not all participate in the IRS freefile programs which in many cases includes more income types and state returns for free than the regular "free" versions that are marketed to the public outside of the IRS channel. I understand IRS freefile may have other restrictions but most filers will fall into the range of the IRS freefile criteria.

Tax Slayer charged me $0 for the free edition, which included the State return and the Earned Income Tax credit. I am Self-Employed and I file a Schedule C. $0 and they answer questions over the phone.

And compared to other Tax softwares, Tax Slayer was the easiest for me to understand. This is coming from someone who has very low patience for bullshit.

I use the state of Connecticut tax program to file my state income tax. It’s free and relatively easy to use. I don’t like taxslayer and I lost my fondness for tax act several years ago.

Would you recommend the self employed version or should I just go with turbo tax for self employed. I am somewhat familiar with doing taxes but don't always know what all the tax breaks are or which form to use if its unusual.

DON'T BELIEVE THEM! It ain't free. I'm an old retiree born before 1942 with only $24, 000 income from pension, IRA distribution and Social Security. Says start you free return and after very much time sorting through all the prompts that have nothing to do with my very basic income it comes up that I owe them $119.35 to file it. Says I was upgraded to Classic filing because I was old? What a rip off.

Taxslayer charged me $39.99 and i filed a basic tax return. Smh. But still. Better than turbotax who wanted to charge me $80

I mean I don't live in a state with no income tax. But don't you still need to file no income tax states? For like property taxes, and things like that?

I think the free edition includes EITC now... I saw this and went "oh shit" and looked into filing amended return but the refund calculator is itemized and had eitc on it and it was the same as my return. Would be better if they just itemized the return instead of just throwing up a number.

They probably think if you need list of items on free simple it probably isn't going to be simple I think yes just ww2 only no extra deduction etc that requires actual work and work ain't simple!!
