The little house my parents bought when I was four years old (in 1963) in Little Rock, Arkansas, USA, had a table that folded down from the wall in the kitchen. You could get four people around it as one side was wider. It had shelves inside on the wall, so my mother was able to keep items like napkins (serviettes), salt, pepper, honey, syrup, etc. on the shelves. I went in the house in 1989, and they were still using it.

I want apartments to be like this in the future with stable architecture and actually soundproof walls. Landlords wouldn't even need to overcharge because of the efficiency of space (aka less square feet per room)

Murphy beds have been around a long time, as have tables with extending leaves. Drop down desks/tables are also not that hard to find places (think of the trays on airplanes) and they are pretty easy to make.
