Calderona de Miner is a fig variety that is not very well known in the United States. It is similar to the better known variety, Calderona, which produce some really good tasting figs. This is my first time trying this variety, Calderona de Miner.

Pons describes this a differentiated sub-variety of Calderona, coming from a fig tree in "Miner of Jose Sacares y Mulet, where it originates." There are a few small differences from the Calderona variety, which I summarize in the video. Specifically, the skin is thinner, the shape is a little different, it starts ripening figs a few days later, but then it ripens the entire crop in a shorter period of time. Fortunately, one quality that this fig variety apparently has in common with Calderona is that it has a great taste. I think this is a variety that many growers will come to appreciate as time goes on.
