Brilliant Trees also an awesome Sylvian album that still has elements of the Japan sound in it.

I saw Japan play on their farewell 1982 tour at Hammersmith Odeon. Still one of the best concerts ever.

So I was a 70s prog fan and I bought two albums to prove I had got over prog in 80/81 - one wasTin Drum and the other was Magazine's Secondhand Daylight. So you just made me realise I was still buying prog. I never really compromised by prog fandom. I feel redeemed.

Stunning album, Mick Karn's bass work on this is otherworldly

Such a fabulous album! Thanks for dedicating a video to this fantastic record. One of my favourites, knowing that you also appreciate it and consider it one of the essentials makes me feel even better about it!

A brilliant album by a brilliant band. However, I think it's their live album Oil On Canvas, released post-breakup, was their absolute peak. Their best songs in the best versions. I absolutely love it.

Also, Mick Karn is one of my greatest bass heroes of all time. He's sorely missed.

An absolute classic from start to finish. Not a single note out of place. I would say that Japan elicit an emotional state from me that no other band does.

Mick Karn's Bass kills on this! I miss Rob Dean's Guitar... but David was going in a more electronic keyboard direction on this!

Yes!!! my favorite band!! Discovered them 15 years ago (yes I am slightly younger and in the US) so never got a chance to enjoy them when they were together. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ commenting prior to watching!!!🎉.

Never really considered Japan to have prog credentials, but I can see it now. I always thought this album to be wonderfully complex and a big change from quiet life. Haven't listened to it for a good few years, but going to dig it out again tonight 👍

Stunning record, their best record and an absolute Masterpiece. Never got into it until I was in my late 30s but soon made up for lost time and it opened up a huge Sylvian rabbit hole and got me into other bands from around the same time XTC, Talk Talk to name 2. I grew up in the 80s and wanted nothing to do with it for a long time but records like this changed that.

The only album I have of this sort of thing is Brilliant Trees by David Sylvian, given to me by a girl from Stoke Prior who taught me fencing (with swords, not posts) in 1985. I love it so much and it's so evocative that it conjures up memories even from before I ever heard it.

Always loved Japan. I never thought of them as a prog band, though. Thanks for the video.

Went to see Japan, on their last tour, back in the 80's. A great gig.
I never thought of them as Prog back then, but now I listen to Tin Drum again, I can see your point.

New Wave-Synth Pop-New Romantics Japan. Visions of China and Gentlemen Take Polaroids. Never could I imagine somebody in the future would ever call them a "prog" band. 😄
