Walker Sisters in the Great Smoky Mountains

With the creation of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, hundreds of families were asked to move out of their mountain homes. A select few, including the six unmarried Walker sisters, received a special lifetime lease—a chance to live out the rest of their lives in the log cabin they were raised in, even after the creation of a national park. Their incredible story is one of strength, hard work, and a love for the land of the Smokies.

This video was created by one of the most seasoned hikers of the Smokies, @HikingwithBraids. As a 2020 Appalachian Trail thru-hiker and Great Smoky Mountains National Park "900-miler", you'll have the ultimate travel companion on your side.

Wish they donated large swaths of land to people who just wanted to build cabins and live without electricity

It's a shame the park has allowed the Walker cabin to fall into such disrepair. 😠

Looks like you were prepared for that long walk. Was it 7 miles to get to the walkers cabin?
