Early Math on Khan Academy: Math begins with counting. It's the most important skill we learn in our early years and becomes the foundation for all other math concepts. Once we can count, we can add, subtract, and measure the world around us. Shortly thereafter, we can learn about place values, plots, graphs, time, money, and shapes. These early math skills are presented in this subject's tutorials in a straightforward, understandable, and (dare we say it) fun way!

About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps. We've also partnered with institutions like NASA, The Museum of Modern Art, The California Academy of Sciences, and MIT to offer specialized content.

For free. For everyone. Forever. #YouCanLearnAnything

The ways I'd do 83 - 25 is:
3 - 5 = -2
80 - 20 = 60
60 - 2 = 58

For some reason I find that easier, even though in school I was taught the way that you show in the video.

And another way you could also do it is:

83 - 20 = 63
5 - 63 = 58

which I also find way simpler and faster than the "normal" way shown in the video.

I always borrowed in math a different way. But for whatever reason, if I try that method when subtracting numbers with decimals, it doesn't seem to work. So I forgot all about this "old fashion way". This video sure did help. Thank you. 😂

(Subtracting 25 from 83: We cannot subtract 3 from 5 so we will take from 8 which means the ten's place so 8 can give only 1 so 8 became 7 and 3 became 13 so we need to keep 1 at the top of 3 so 13 minus 5 is 8 and 7 minus 2 is 8 so 83 minus 25 is 58.)

change 83 by + 2 to 85
85 - 25 = 60
Now reverse the 2
60 - 2 = 58
So much for common core :-)

I'm 26 and this actually helped me. I totally forgot to do subtraction, division and multiplication on paper (I only remember the addition method from school). Damn calculators. :)

I really hope you're going to go into creative uses of mental math. Maybe use the Japanese Multiplying by Parts. That's the only trick I know.
