Parliament: Heated exchange between Grace Fu and WP's Jamus Lim over flexible carbon pricing

A heated exchange between Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu and Workers' Party (WP) Member of Parliament (MP) Jamus Lim broke out in Parliament on Tuesday (Nov 8) over whether there should be flexibility in carbon pricing to take into account the economic situation.

As the two butted heads, Leader of the Opposition Pritam Singh stepped in at one point and said that either party ought to be seated when the other was speaking, as per usual parliament etiquette.

Its funny how the Gov selects their cabinet ministers. A ex army general in charge of education when he has no background experience in educational leadership. A ex accountant in charge of sustainability when she has no background experience in green technology and a doctor who is in charge of manpower while some nobody who has no relevant experience is in charge of health. Is that what meritocracy is?

Grace Fu is basically asking Jamus Lim to predict the future, while Jamus is just saying to be prepared because the future is uncertain. I don't know what Grace doesn't understand, cause it seems pretty clear to me.

Why is there a need to provide absolute certainty over the carbon tax rates? Jamus puts it very well, interest rates (and I might add, FX) changes all the time… GF needs to present her arguments in a coherent and calm manner. Showing frustration over the slightest disagreement is clearly not the right way to go.

I am a layman, this was not that hard to understand..theres no need to condescendingly ask a question about something you could have just paid attention to..stop pretending like you care about the issues, exact numbers won't help you to understand a concept until you understand the concept first.

James Lim should have just asked Grace Fu what the interest rates in 2025 would be. Point would have gone through clearer.
