The World Cup but only nations who have NEVER qualified

Welcome to TomFM! In today's Football Manager 2023 experiment video I take 32 countries who have never qualified for the World Cup and put them into their own World Cup in FM23 to see who would win!

Forgot to mention in the video but in order for all the teams to have real players, I've ensured all 450, 000 players in Football Managers database are included in the save file!

DR Congo actually played at world cup in 1974, but they were known as Zaire.

Before the group stage was shown, I did a little prediction in my head that Suriname could go far. Here's the deal: a lot of Surinamese players play in the Dutch competitions, and they always have quality players. For instance, the Dutch squad in the 90s had Surinamese-Dutch players like Seedorf, Davids, Reiziger, Bogarde and Winter. More and more players choose to play for Suriname nowadays, just like what's happening to the Curaçao squad. It's cool to see and follow.

Quite a few good teams missing that have never qualified such as Mali, Burkina Faso, Macedonia(who knocked Italy out), Cape Verde etc. missing. Also, DR Congo(then Zaire) qualified in 1978

Suriname have a pretty good side nowadays. Most of their players are full-time professionals, mainly in The Netherlands. Curaçao also have plenty of players in the Dutch league, but generally at lower levels, so I'd say in real life Suriname are the better side of the 2.

Luxembourg winning that group also wasn't surprising to me at all. They have a pretty decent side for their standards now in real life, pretty much all of them are full-time professionals playing at a good standard, like the Belgian top flight, Bundesliga & 2nd Bundesliga.

I was expecting far more from Finland and Luxembourg, and even DR Congo though they have already played in the WC as Zaire, to me those two were candidates alongside Albania

Love the video & the general context! Only thing wrong with this video is DR Congo have qualified for a World Cup, we were in the 1974 World Cup although we went as Zaire then 😂. Anyways keep doing your thing !

I have some problems with this (I can think of two from the top of my head).
1. DR Congo had already qualified for the FIFA World Cup (as Zaire)
2. Under the rules of the FIFA World Cup draw, no two teams from the same confederation can be drawn to the same group (except UEFA where up to two can be drawn). This rule has not been followed for certain groups, especially Group H where three African teams were drawn into.

Sheraldo becker is one of the top goalscorers for Union Berlin! Probably is playing for Netherlands if he didn’t switch to suriname

To be fair Suriname had the only player in the tournament (who I am aware of with my very limited knowledge) in Sheraldo Becker who has been playing a great Bundesliga season so far.

This was great Tom. I didn't see Suriname Winning, awesome stuff for them. I thought the last 4 Teams was gonna Finland, Malta, Albania and Venezuela but alot of twist n turns in this World Cup.

Except Sheraldo Becker, who recently joined the national squad, they also have Tjarron Chery who plays for maccabi haifa in israel and played in the champions league last year against psg, benfica and juventus in the group. Suriname also has Kelvin Leerdam playing for LA Galaxy in the MLS, Ryan Donk who played for Galatasaray in turkey nowadays still playing in turkey for Kasimpasa, Shaquille Pinas who plays for Hammarby in sweden, Myenty Abena who plays for Ferencvaros, And recently also added were Anfernee Dijksteel from Middlesborough and Kenneth Paal from QPR

FUN FACT! Guatemala's very own, Carlos "Pescadito" Ruiz has the most goals for Fifa WC Qualifiers! (And yeah, never qualified....)
