Funnily enough, I just bought two extra black refuse bins for that very purpose last week - I now have 3 'water butts' . It is good advice - not just for gardening, and security but for interruptions to water supply as well. That's one thing we are not short of in Wales - rain. Frost risk up until Wednesday. I was lucky that my water melon was ready to harvest today - eaten and gone already! I have other watermelon plants, but that was the standard red one - I think it was 'Sugar Baby' or some such, got it from guess where? Yes, correct - Lidl. If it will grow successfully in the Rhondda, it will grow anywhere. Fingers crossed for my corn now as it is not quite ready for harvest. All the best, Vox.

Thank you Dan. I see you choose to position the downpipe water diverters well above your container inlets. Traditionally, of course, they are mounted level with each other so that once the container is full, the excess rainwater will then flow down the downpipe into a drain, thereby preventing the container from overflowing. You already know this, so I'm wondering how you manage the overflowing containers - especially those monster IBC's. Thanks for your Heath-Robinson improvisations - I'm also very much a convert to make do and mend, and this helps being greener by harvesting rainwater. The bonus is that rainwater is far better for plants (with the exception of seedlings, some say), as well as saving £££ on water bills if one's water is metered.

Even with a couple of small containers with water in I seem to get plagued by mosquitoes, I would imagine with that many containers you probably get a few as well Dan 😱😱
