Nintendo Family Computer (Famicom) review. Classic Game Room presents a CGRundertow import hardware review of the Nintendo Family Computer (Famicom).

History is a tale of the great creations of man. The steam engine. The internet. The Mackey Burger. (Pepperoni, on a hamburger!) The Nintendo Family Computer, AKA The Famicom. Home to 1055 games (officially), and widely considered the savior of an industry. All from an unassuming lump of plastic barely larger than a stack of 3 NES carts. Welcome to the Third Generation of gaming, World. Just hope you don't mind sitting a maximum of two feet from the console.

This video review features video gameplay footage of Super Mario Bros. for Nintendo Family Computer (Famicom) and audio commentary from Classic Game Room's TJ.

Thank you very much reminded me of my childhood. It was a very good time for me.

The NES cartridges had to be made much bigger so they could be easily removed from the front-loading slot. Since the FC was a top-loader, its cartridges could be smaller.

And here, I was half expecting the Game Center CX intro to be recreated.

The only problem with the normal famicom model is that it only runs RF (unless you mod it) so the Nes still have AV. It wasn't until the Sharp Twin, Twin turbo and AV Famicom that the system had AV.

I remember playing this console with my big brother. He would always beat me in baseball, and then I'd change the game to that kung fu game with the pink pants wearing hero. Good Times!

Hello, Great video....Stupid question after the main game screen comes up what button do I hit to actually "START" the game. I put my joystick in port 1 and 2, hit the space bar, return button and the game won't start...Any Info would be great....C64 Newbie....

That's a really interesting console system.

While there's nothing wrong with the non-Japanese version, I kinda feel they could have released it with the same design outside of Japan, only either hard wire the controllers from the front (surely there could have been a way to have done that) plus with longer wires, or with the same detacheable controllers we had plus the mic capability. Would be kinda cool to have the latter (or just sell that separately for that matter perhaps). Plus the Famicom design here seems lighter and the top load concept seems better in comparison.

THey totally should've brought this over to the States. I mean, how cool would some games have been with a mic? They could've even added an extra feature to Duck Hunt or something where you had to blow wind away.

Note Famicom was first before the USA version of the NES it self so if that did never came we would not probably have a lot of system's now so just remember that

My famicom broke, but I still have my cartridges. Maybe someday I buy another famicom console to play my old games once again especially my first fighting game and still favorite: Tsuppari Ozumo (Sumo Fighting game only release in japan).

I remember having Famicom(still have it somewhere in my basement) that had removable controllers plus Zapper(the gun) and run on a specific frequency I can't remember which one was it, also I don't remember having any issues connecting it to my PAL TV it was a simple plug into the TV's aerial input. It also had 10 or more pre-programed games inside it. My father bought it back in 1987, so can anyone tell me what kind of Famicom do i have?

I used to play a lot of games with this console before, including my sentimental favorites like Super Mario bros 3, Yo Noid, Kage a whole bunch more... =)
