Oh gawd! I'd forgotten this concert at GM Place! I'd seen Billy a few times over the decades, but to see him with Elton, whose music contributed so many memories too, was a unforgettable treat.
I found this video after watching Billy's 100th MSG concert last night. The last time I saw Billy he was on a bill with Jerry Lee Lewis here in Vancouver. Billy was hung over from partying with friends who live in Vancouver, and Jerry Lee was knocked out loaded. So drunk in fact, that he had to be led off stage after he began drunken rambling. Neither man was in good shape. Of the two, Billy was definitely the better.
After all the problems Billy had - between his manager leaving him broke & Billy firing his whole longtime band in a fit of anger - I didn't know whether he could salvage a career that been so stellar. But there he was last night, in perfect voice & being the "Billy Joel" most of we oldsters remember.
He turns 75 May 9th, just days after I turn 76. His birthday will be celebrated at MSG as part of the last 50 shows he'll play at MSG, ending on July 9th 2024. Pretty friggin incredible!

Thanks for this memory.

Probably the best live version of great balls of fire they’ve done, that A4 Elton hits at the end is sexy

It almost sounds like a soundboard recording.

You missed Tiny Dancer off of the song list, after Rocket Man. ✌
