"The End" is a song by the Doors, the lyrics of which are written by Jim Morrison. He originally wrote the song about breaking up with his girlfriend Mary Werbelow, but it evolved through months of performances at Los Angeles' Whisky a Go Go into a nearly 12-minute track on their self-titled album. The band would perform the song to close their last set. It was first released in January 1967. The song was recorded live in the studio with no overdubbing. Two takes were done and it has been held that the second take is the one that was issued. However, there is also a view that the issued version of the song was an edit of both takes, with at least one splice

Jim was a brilliant individual. He read the philosophy of Nietchse, and the rationalists, The ancient philosophers, the greek mythology, etc. Every single line of lyrics refers to a multiple myth cycles, Dionysus, Oedipus, etc, the name the Doors comes from the book The Doors of Perception, by Aldous Huxley.Admiral Morrison was emotionally stunted, but not cruel.Just didn't understand Jim.What really caused him pain was the fact that he wanted to be thought of as a poet.he became disillusioned when nobody else understood him except Ray Manseric. The album American Prayer was not successful, all the legal problems, drug busts, and indecency charges burned him out.He was a poet, not a rock star. Jim wanted to Be the door thru which u would pass, on your own journey to the threshold of your own mind

His voice is so honest and haunting. From what I have read, Morrison was traumatized by his father's cruel emotional discipline which I think resulted in his artistry.

Partly inspired (according to an interview) on a blue bus tour of the 7 mile long peninsula of the Liz Ard (HIGH THRONE in English) in Cornwall overlooking the drowned Kingdom of Lyonesse, from the moment it opens with the sad tolling of the bells of the drowned churches this is also as powerful a retelling of that ancient legend of family betrayal of King Arthur as there has ever been in one stunning song.

I don't know how Jim Morrison was the thing that made the Doors the best. When you ask me my favorite thing about the Doors, I would say the intoxicating instrumentals. But Jim went away and they couldn't hold it together.

This is the end, beautiful friend
This is the end, my only friend
The end of our elaborate plans
The end of ev'rything that stands
The end
No safety or surprise
The end
I'll never look into your eyes again
Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need of
some strangers hand
In a desperate land
Lost in a Roman wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain
There's danger on the edge of town
Ride the king's highway
Weird scenes inside the goldmine
Ride the highway West baby
Ride the snake
Ride the snake
To the lake
To the lake
The ancient lake baby
The snake is long
Seven miles
Ride the snake
He's old
And his skin is cold
The west is the best
The west is the best
Get here and we'll do the…

I loved this song prior to Apocalypse Now ... but now it has and will ever be intertwined. If I see anything from the movie, my mind goes directly to The End 💀

Unfortunately I was forced to witness the comments below. How tiny=brained, milennials have managed to categorise the most meaningful and exsistentialy significant song of the C20th in terms of "Rock Symphony" and "Avengers 5" leads me to despair, but hey, I was feeling depressed anyway so credit them as a catalyst at least.
