Rebecca, this lesson would have been the perfect lesson to discuss a grammatical error that is displayed at the check-out counter of many supermarkets where a sign is posted that reads "This aisle is for ten items or less." Here the difference between items that can be counted (such as bottles of water or containers of milk) and those that cannot be counted or cannot be easily counted (such as sugar, rice, and salt) dictates whether the words "fewer" or "less" should be used in these situations.

Thanks, Rebecca. I use a lot of your videos for the ESL class I teach. They're very clear, and it's also nice to see all the info you've written on a white board. That saves me from doing it too! 😊

❤ I remember I used your illustration even though they seemed irrelevant to over qualified student's.
But they learnt never to judge a book by its cover, they are in the Hospitality Management fields, and are set for the Forbes, travel awards. Seeing you today reminded me of your perfectionist image.
Ps. they didn’t get to see you I took your example ‘s forward.

When I first learned English in primary school, many, many moons ago, we learned that things like teams are grammatically singular, so in a cricket match, the commentator will say something like "Australia is in trouble now", even though the team of course consists of many individuals. And indeed, that is just what they did - until perhaps ten years or so ago, when suddenly, one day, all sports commentators apparently collectively decided that teams are plural. And so now I constantly hear them saying things like "Australia are in trouble."

As much as it pleases me to hear of the Aussie team's woes, it grates on me every time I hear that kind of thing. After a lifetime of battling it out with English grammar, and still constantly stumbling over its many pitfalls, it now turns out that even native English speakers cannot decide what the correct usage of their own language is.

I give up. I shall henceforth wave around my accented, barbarian English with pride. :-)
