it’s good to know that i’m not the only thing that gets hard in the absence of air

If you go look at any Amazon review of any threadlocker you'll see dozens of complaints that the bottle was half empty and people think they got ripped off. So much so that companies need to put a disclaimer right in the advertisement saying that it's going to come half-filled

Similar fun fact about cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) like 2p-10 that uses catalyst hardener.
It does not dry, it polymerizes in the presence of moisture.
So you can actually make it “dry” by spraying it with water.

It actually takes to components to set locktite. Absence of air and exposure to an active metal. You can apply it to a pvc threaded fitting getting the absence of air yet it still won't cure.

@Dailydoseoftools Thanks for your video. Here's a few more details of interest. Yes the resin needs a lack of air to cure but it also needs a metal surface. The metal type also affects the cure speed. Metals that oxidize quickly cure quickly. The bottles also breathe. They have micro pores to allow the air to get in and out. This helps prevent curing in the bottle. Cheers. (retired Loctite guy)

Factory rep said the bottles are made of a plastic that breathes, that's why old bottles get sticky on the outside.
Also said to use primer on metals that are not active as in plated or stainless

all these years and all the money i've spent on bottles and bottles...THANK YOU!

That's 1/2 of the story. The rest is Loctite needs access to the metal's elemental makeup to harden, so if the metal has any coating whatsoever, you have to use Loctite's primer.

For those of you less vocabularally challenged, Loctite is anaerobic.

Thanks for sharing was wondering what was going on thought had bad or old tube replaced scope mounts after months still wet when pulled off rings but threads were dry and hardened.👍🏻

So thats why my bottle (refill) always harden... wow nice to know why it happens 😮

Since it's *anaerobic* glue it gets cured with no air by its definition.

I didn't know that. It seems important to know, and nobody taught me until you did, Just now. Thank you, now i know, even though I was looking for something else, i learned this, and i truly appreciate it. I hope your pillow stays cold on both sides, forever and always

Actually, metal is the catalyst that makes the single part epoxy kick off

Interesting! So what's the blue stuff that comes pre-applied on the threads of various bolts, particularly those with automotive applications? I always assumed THAT was Loctite.

Blue is good. Don't use red. It's too good.

Damn I used to squeeze the air out (of the tubes) and then cap it tight. Obviously, I didn't know that! lol
