AU Explaination because I'm cool:
So, in this AU, there is a group called The Eggpire (haha dream smp).
They use a special serum that they distributed to the population as a "vaccine for cancer," and it allowed them to manipulate people's minds and make them see things. By doing that, they can basically control the entire Earth.
They work with a team called The Dream Team, which consists of Dr. Georgenotfound, Dr. Dream, and Dr. Sapnap. Dream is outstanding at working with children, calming them down, manipulating them without them knowing, etc. Dream told TommyInnit and Purpled that they were special, that they could save the population.
The generation that Tommy and Purpled were born in was a generation that they called the Riot.
The Riot was a small generation of children that could resist the serum; they were standing in the way of world domination.
The Eggpire took in Tommy and Purpled as children and were experimenting on them since they were kids. One day, Purpled overheard Dream say that they were freaks and that they were gulliable. Purpled lost all of his respect for Dream, he thought that Dream was kind and an amazing person, but didn't tell
Tommy because Tommy clung to the hope that he could someday talk with the other kids. The normal kids.
