This song was inspired by an acid trip Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal had while Robert Schultzberg was visiting his girlfriend in Germany for a month in September 1994. Molko has stated that “it was never written in a state of reality”. The last echoing “I” lyric at the end is the last lyric on the album and the last sound before the hidden track “H.K. Farewell”, which begins playing 10 minutes after this song ends.

When I first heard this, I imagined a guy in a suit, in an old red telephone box (UK style), on the moon (no spacesuit even) - elbow against the machine with receiver in hand facing down while the bright light of the sun reflected off the moon surface. Ok, I was young and stoned at the time, but still, the image stuck and whenever I hear this song I still imagine some guy making a surreal phone call from the moon lol.

I like to think this song is about guilt. Both the lyrics and the title suggest so. It's hard to swallow when you want to say something but keep stuttering because you just can't do it.
