A lot of the Saudi assets are tied up in the US. This closer partnership with China is a great way to diversify and de-risk their assets. This is especially important now since they saw how quickly the US has seized and sanctioned Russian assets in the US after the Ukraine war has broken out. Even more critical now that they are no longer on the US's good side after the oil production cuts by 2million barrels per day. It is speculated that Xi's visit will likely create a breakthrough in moving away from petro-dollar hegemony. Perhaps an alternate petro-currency will emerge.
