$140K per vehicle per year to live in a parking spot? You got to be kidding me? I wonder whose pocketing all that money. It doesn't cost that much to live in an empty lot. Most people can afford to live in an apartment for less than that.

Homless Industrial Complex is why it cost $140k a vehicle or over $11k per vehicle per month Can rent a nice house and provide food for that.

This has been going on for decades now. California has spent more than any other state on homelessness initiatives with the worst results per capita or dollar spent. There's no oversight on allocated funds. Vehicles at this "sanctuary" were supposed to be offered repairs so they can continue on their way, wherever they may stay, and yet they got shafted on a promise that was never rooted in reality. So the homeless are forced to vacate, as they have been their entire homeless lives, and told to suck it up. But where did the money for this program go? Who was the head of this program that misallocated funds so poorly?

The lack of oversight by this state is sickening. I'm as liberal as it gets, but city and state leaders routinely fail us on a daily basis.

This is dumb. Every City should have a designated area like this. To help transition people. The City of Mountain View near Shoreline figured out how to run a program. For some of these people they can pay a nominal fee. ADA bathrooms are not expensive. $140K? How? I’m not advocating for free repairs or maintenance.

140k? You could build several permanent tiny home villages AND repair everyone's vehicle for that much money. LondIn Breed took so much money & ran.

A budget analyst report in 2023 estimates the cost per vehicle at the site to be about $140, 000 per year. You can buy a million dollar house with that money. The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment in San Francisco is around $ 2, 912. $140, 000.00 for a parking spot per year. Outrageous! These people are refusing medical help and housings. The money that spends on homelessness is solving nothing. That money should go into education . Too many schools in San Francisco are closing down because of the lack of funding.

There needs to be an accounting/investigation to explain this $140, 000 per vehicle per year cost.

This is so sad.
Who would’ve guessed a nonprofit would squander more than enough money to run a parking program?

In 1978, HUD’s budget was over $83 billion.
In 1983, HUD’s budget was only $18 billion.
In 1983, general public emergency shelters began opening in cities nationwide.
In 1987, Congress passed the Stewart B. McKinney Act, providing $880 million in homeless assistance funding (2004 constant dollars).
Since 1987, annual McKinney homeless assistance has never been more than $1.4 billion.
Federal responses to homelessness have failed and will continue to fail unless and until they include a serious and sizable federal recommitment to funding affordable housing.

Homeless is big business for corporations now. All that money spent could've been used for low-income housing. Instead, it goes into the pockets of these "social services" that pretend to help but don't really.

c'mon...really? Where does self responsibility come in? "they" won't repair my vehicle, "they" Won't give me anything. These "good" folks don't believe in paying for anything "poor me" I'm homeless. Then won't take any housing offered ? Prison camp? In shock? Did these "good" people this was a permanent solution? $140, 000 per vehicle? The Tax payers of SF should be outrage of the waste and corruption going on in plain site.
