Silent letters develop with older written languages, pronouncing a word changes with time but writing it doesn’t keep up with the change.

The Inuktitut syllabics are a really beautiful and efficient writing system. Unfortunately, many younger speakers have started advocating for their eradication and replacement with the Latin alphabet in order to make it “easier” for younger generations to learn. What they don’t realize is that in the long run, it’s the syllabics that are easier for people learning the language…
