Americans accepting the tip culture is wild. Work without knowledge of your pay just blows my mind. Especially when the service industry needs you and still abuses you.

They were only tipped like that because the guest received discounts for the charter because it was televised. We typically receive half those amounts for each of the 2 to 4 day charters completed

I've felt for a long long time that tip money being discussed has given guests power to treat these hard-working guys really badly. It needs to be cut out of the show. And only discuss the crap tippers.

This honestly makes me really happy about my career choice and still able to take a year or 6 months off after 6 months of work and be able to tip hard-working people well...

My son works at Applebees(albeit a very busy one on Long Island, New York) . He has come home with $350 in tips for a 10 hour shift ( thats in addition to a $10 hourly rate). Keep in mind this crew works 16 hour plus days while on charter. That’s not crazy money when you think about it.

Little explainer for you guys: tips are tax-free. You don’t pay sale tax, not business tax, no income tax. That is what is driving Americans more and more into a tipping culture. You pay minimum wage (even less for restaurant workers) and get the rest in tips. You save 30% in taxes on that. Cheaper for the customer and more cash for the worker. Ideally. Unless nobody tips. Then you are fucked and you have to sell your children to some guy who owns an Island. But that’s just life!

When it's already in cash you know someone took money before they split the tips.

People don’t understand how hard of a job this shit really is when there’s no cameras involved

I've just started my position is the official head of wait and help staff in charge of tip counting.. unfortunately the tips this month were $2, 500 😏

I did much different boat work but when I was it worked out to be 6 months on 6 months off and so this really worked out to about 500 a week in tips that they were working which isn’t bad but there are some industries where servers make this in a night and don’t live on a boat to do it

I mean if that's just for a months work, it's decent, but I've made more working at Longhorn's in a month. Now if it was less than month's work than, Ya, that's pretty good. I have no idea what show this is by the way so I'm just going on assumptions.

cruise ships don't operate like restaurants. All of these people make like 75k a year Salary so this is their tips on top of that and then they eat free all year on the cruise Shipped and they work 4 days on 3 days off so they get these long combined days off Till they're always in some type of paradise and they get to go to all these different countries and See the world which you can't really put a price tag on they get private little apartments And they really are living their best life because they're taking that 90000 and just putting it away every year Because when they're on shore the apartments that the cruise companies provide for them are free

They left us $18, 000.00 "yeah, it's not setting the world on fire" I'm ready for the backlash of this comment, but that sounded ungrateful to me.
