-----------------------------

Kim Jong Un's life was shrouded in secrecy, preparing him for a role leading one of the world's most authoritarian regimes.

Born in the early 1980s, he spent his formative years in Switzerland under a pseudonym, experiencing Western values which failed to instill in him any reformist tendencies.

Instead, his time abroad solidified his resolve to maintain and expand his country's stringent control.

Upon his father, Kim Jong Il's death in December 2011, Kim Jong Un quickly demonstrated his capacity to enforce his authority, engaging in high-profile purges to eliminate potential rivals.

His tenure has been marked by his luxurious lifestyle, starkly contrasting with the widespread poverty in North Korea. He owns multiple lavish properties, including the expansive Ryongsong Residence, which features numerous amenities like a massive swimming pool and private underground train station.

Additionally, Kim Jong Un enjoys an opulent collection of jets, luxury vehicles, and yachts, underlining the disparity between the elite and the general populace.

The Kim family's rise to power began under Japanese colonial rule, where Kim Hyong-jik, the patriarch, was influenced by Christian missionaries and Western education.

This background set the stage for the family’s significant influence in North Korea. Kim Il Sung, ascending to leadership with Soviet support post-World War II, established North Korea with a strong cult of personality and a centralized economy.

He was succeeded by his son, Kim Jong Il, who continued the family’s authoritarian legacy amid economic struggles and a devastating famine that marked the late 20th century.

Kim Jong Il's regime focused on military-first policies, further degrading the economy but ensuring his grip on power through intensive propaganda and political purges.

His death in 2011 led to Kim Jong Un's rise, who has since maintained the family's rule with an even tighter control, possibly preparing for another hereditary succession.

This narrative reveals the intricate and secretive nature of North Korea’s ruling family, from their historical origins to the present day, highlighting the profound impact of their governance on the country and its people.

The young President Kim looks more like his grandfather than like his father and if he both smokes and is heavy, that's not the best health.

Reunification would devastate the success of what was South Korea. The south would be supporting an entire welfare region, whose inhabitants would see them as enemies for generations. The inherent resentments that would foster make it difficult to imagine.

The North Korean line is legitimated by divine descent from Mt. Paektu. Its really an absolute monarchy disguised in republicsn trappings. Which has resulted in the adoption of the values of hierarchy, obedience and elitism. Once communist ideals have been eliminated as incompatible with Korean culture. To call the country the hermit kingdom is both apt and an understatement at the same time. North Korea is one of the last surviving holdouts of the Cold War.

Their atheism must be questioned, because of the occultist practices, psychism.... and their idolatry of ancestors.

Lovely recap of modern Korean history. Unfortunately, no old money. No wealth discussion. None of the things the channel is noted for. Perhaps you have wandered off-topic.

What? I find it very sad that his relatives were Christian Missionaries and now in North Korea no one is allowed to read the Bible. I’m someone who hasn’t read a bible in over a decade and a half but how horrible that his people are so unbelievably oppressed, starving and downtrodden and are forbidden to find peace in the Christian bible.
