NASA's Hubble Discovers Moon Orbiting Dwarf Planet Makemake

Показать описание
Astronomers using the Hubble Space Telescope discovered a moon orbiting dwarf planet Makemake -- the third largest known object past the orbit of Neptune, about two thirds the size of Pluto. Further observations of this moon may allow astronomers to calculate Makemake's mass, which will give them a better idea of its density and thus its bulk composition. The Hubble Space Telescope has been instrumental in studying our outer solar system; it also discovered four of the five moons orbiting Pluto.

Love hearing about new discoveries in our solar system! I remember my fathers astronomy book when I was a kid. Only had 32 moons in our system listed.

There's always something new to find out, even this close to our planet

Sounds like a good reason to keep Hubble operational for another 10 years .

NASA would be boring without all the 'artist concepts'.

Dear NASA there is a dwarf planet candidate called 2017 OF201 it could be between 550-850 kilometers now I have a name for it Coeus in Greek mythology Coeus is the sibling of Phobe but if you don't like that name then the person was also named Polus i hope the dwarf planet could be named this and if it had a moon Coeus had two children Leto and Asteria (i chose to comet this on a video about dwarf planets so i wasn't off topic) hope your having a nice day!

How about calling the moon Hawa-tuu-take-take?
In the Rapa Nui mythology, the deity Make-make was the chief god of the birdman cult, and the other three deities associated with it were Hawa-tuu-take-take (the Chief of the eggs, a male god), his wife Vie Hoa, and another female deity named Vie Kanatea.

Hm. How do you estimate an objects composition and mass by a second object orbiting it, if you do not know that objects mass and composition either?

Turns out I've been pronouncing makemake all wrong

My friend is keep saying that there is no such thing as dwarf planets except pluto.
Cuz his high schooler brother found stuff in a book that the pluto is the edge of the solar system thats why.
So., he is keep saying everything in yt is fake.
