I have such fond memories of this game.
I got it when it came out on the SNES and it was one of my favourites. This was also the game that got my mum into games. She bought us the Nintendo but she never paid much attention I remember, until we got this one and she kept saying "oh that looks fun, I like the music", so we showed her how to play it, and to this day she still plays games. How many people can say that their mum can beat them at Age of Empires 2? I've got this to thank for that.

I like how Raphael the Raven just has gravity control as a power and never uses it again after getting to the moon. He really gave 100% for that fight.

This game was so ahead of its time. The backgrounds, the art, the mechanics and most of all the fun/play-ability. Just an amazing game. I am loading up my SNES Classic right not. I also LOVE how Kamek talks both sounds and what he says. I forgot how most of the shit he says is so witty.

11:25 what's sad is that it's officially implied that Sluggy doesn't mean any harm and actually slithers forward because he's happy to see you and wants to give you a hug, but you have to break his heart since he'll end up accidentally pushing you off the stage if you don't. Poor Sluggy :(

Edit: okay I can’t actually remember where I got this from and also the manual implies Sluggy wants to leave Yoshi out in the cold, so I’m not sure now

This game really did have some of the most unique and diverse enemies bosses in any Nintendo game. Including some that you don't find in most other games (such as The Potted Ghost and Sluggy the Unshaven). Don't get me wrong, I love the Super Mario series, but fighting Koopalings all the damn time got kinda old fast. Raphael the Raven and Baby Bowser were some of the most fun boss battles!

I love all the yoshi's island bosses, such a super creativity in all them, when Yoshi was fighting tap tap, I kinda felt sorry for him when he was drowning in the lava

Of all the entrances of the bosses when they changed, Navel Piranha had the best one. Especially with the way they gave it the full boss music to time as it came in.

The fight with Marching Milde is a good way to remember what cell division is.

It's great when you let baby Bowser hit you with his ground pound. He actually rides on Yoshi's back until you get baby Mario back.

Looking back, this game was overlooked because PlayStation and 64 were looming over the horizon.

Seeing it now, it makes me feel like a kid again. It taps into this childlike wonder that many modern/adult games sadly lack.
