Ha I was about to say that Artist… is my fave Ishiguro. Thanks for the shoutout!

I really need to do this, I read mainly from the library and follow a few prizes (attempt the longlists) but I really need to read more from my shelves.
True History of the Kelly Gang is a favourite of mine, I was born in Kelly country about 10km from where he was born, Kelly family members still live in the area. I've visited Glenrowan a number of times, there's a bit of a tourist thing there now. One day I'll reread it.
The Lincoln Hwy would make my 23 book list too. The Midnight Library is lovely.

Although "Remains of the Day" is indeed very good, my favourite Ishiguro is "The Unconsoled", maybe because I love the Central European, Kafkaesque and magical realism vibe. I think I shall try "The Buried Giant" soon. It lurks on my shelves.

"A Gentleman in Moscow" is a fabulous read - like you, not necessarily my usual genre, but blow-away spectacular writing. "The True History of the Kelly Gang" is fantastic too, I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. Carey creates a language for the outlaw, Ned Kelly, that is astonishing in its power to evoke the Australian culture of the time. Enjoy!

Too many fabulous books to read. Too little time! Admit it, there is no way to control your (or any dedicated reader's) TBR. And your channel has added to my TBR. Thank you for that. But also, oh no, more chices to make with what I read next - I have a copy of Sapiens, I should read that I think.

Infinite Jest is creepin in the background waiting for you to read it.

What a cool idea to have your tbr in date order on your shelves 😊 I love that.
I've read the midnight library (amazing) and the Emily Henry (fine). I'm also collecting Taylor Jenkins Reid and haven't read any of them yet 😂
Wishing you success!

An Artist may be my favourite Ishiguro . Need to reread Remains to know for sure (I’ve read all but one of his novels). Very familiar Ishiguro territory in terms of themes, but its own unique work and superbly written (as usual 🤩). Highly recommended.

Only aim for two backlist books a month. There will be too many new books this year to make more a month too much.
The six I’ve read and would recommend are
Midnight Library
The Rules of Civility
A Gentleman in Moscow
The Lincoln Highway
A Town Called Solace
Beach Read

Okay, I think I can cut your list by 2 right off the top because two of the books are much better movies. Rosemary's Baby is a classic, classic movie, directed by Roman Polanski before he fled the US (Google that) and stars a baby Mia Farrow and a ton of old famous actors...it is so iconic and scary....and since you've read The Joy Luck Club already, the movie is sooo good. I know I should encourage reading, but I hope this helps. ☺️

I am obviously unusual in my approach to reading. I find the whole "TBR" concept to be really odd and particularly a regimented TBR where lists are made and then followed. I encounter books that interest me, some physical and some digital. I buy them. They are available to me should I ever wish to pick them up. When I finish a book I have no idea whatsoever what I will read next until I then start reading something. I make a snap decision from the reading matter I have to hand and then start reading my next book. I don't make a list. I don't plan. I just read. I don't feel guilt about the unread material that remains available to me. I don't obsess about books I have owned for years without touching. I simply take the view that as long as I am reading something, then all is well. I simply do not have the mental bandwidth to care about TBRs. It puzzles me that so many people feel guilt or failure or inadequacy about unread books. I just feel lucky to have a wealth of reading matter available to me at all times. At some point I will die and there will be unread books. Why obsess over it?! I do not mean this as a dig or a criticism. Perhaps people get joy from planning what they want to read. That's great if so. To me it just feels alien as I cannot predict what kind of reading mood I will be in until the precise moment comes where I'm ready to start a new book. You should defo read Misery though. It's King's best book. But only if you feel like it 😜
