Let us be reminded that Sonic almost outran a black hole.

That's something not even light can escape from.

Hey If your using a computer while listening to this, you could act out the scene by scrolling the mouse and pretend to outrun the red bar sliding to the right!

It may be 30 seconds long, but it is simply one of the best music pieces in the entire franchise.

Isn't that technically the hardest stage in the game, because it is impossible to outrun the black hole, so it's like impossible to finish the stage with a victory

In most forms of media, after the final battle is over, there’s calm. Here it’s just: *Run.*

Fact: the term terminal velocity means the point of speed something can reach when air resistance and the opposing speed reaches a stand still. The song repeats itself which means it’s the only maximum speed aka music track it can play! Don’t believe me? How does the song end aka the game stage ends?

If Sonic could outrun a black hole for almost 30 seconds than imagine how long Super Sonic could outrun it

Something I'm kinda sad the remixed version of this track fails to convey is the fact that this song is the total culmination of the story, it's a finale, but a finale going horribly wrong. It's a desperate reach for a good ending that happens in a burst of speed hard to comprehend through just one medium, it's something you experience.
The point of the music in Terminal Velocity is that it grabs instruments from basically every area of the game and implements it into the track as a sort of mishmash of different musical references, with guitars representing Asteroid Coaster and the background bass for Tropical Resort, the trumpets representing Sweet Mountain, the everpresent sound modulation of speed repping Starlight Carnival (probably) and the piano representing Aquarium Park.
It's not JUST a level theme, it's a thematic culmination, and here the point is that you're outrunning an avalanche caused by your victory.
While the remix does a great job at clearing up the instrumentation and letting the main instruments be heard pretty much at all times while injecting some sweet drum play, it lack the iron grip the original has on the tension, as the entire track you're running on is raising underneath your feet and breaking apart forcing you to find a different path down the same straight line you've been effortlessly running down this whole time.
The way the instruments get louder by the end becoming almost overwhelming before cutting out with a short echo is an amazing pay-off and it conveys the idea of succumbing despite your best effort, being just short of freedom.
You survive because obviously, but it shows something most other Sonic games don't, which is that Sonic's speed isn't the ultimate answer in the situation, even if it IS the only possible answer. He CAN'T outrun a black hole. Had he not freed the Wisps, he'd be dead, but thanks to the friendship between them and some Wisp magic, they carry him to safety.
This track puts across this little play on expectations so well because the crescendo really makes you think you're almost free before cutting off abruptly (which is another thing the remix kinda fumbles, because the guitar and drums have a small tail to their section at the end, indicating it to be on purpose as opposed to a sudden cut-off).

anyway *tl;dr* both tracks are amazing in an objective sense but i prefer this one because loud good music is better than less loud good music

This is most epic 30 seconds song I ever heard.

I feel sorry for those who didn't play Sonic Colors when it first came out in 2010.
It's definitely aged today, but playing this back then as a teen was such a thrill ride for me!

And God, the soundtrack...
My favorite 3D Sonic OST since 2010!
12 years later, and it's still the king!

Although it only lasts 30 seconds or so, I prefer this rendition of Terminal Velocity over the one used in Act 1.

Also... man, the fact that Sonic was almost able to outrun a black hole is quite a feat.

I love this music. But man. After sonic with his sassy voice saying "This may not end well" I just...

Can't take this moment seriously. even though it's probably one of the most intense moments in the entire franchise.

I wish this level was more cinematic, imagine you're running down an elevator shaft with everything crumbling to shit, a bunch of explosions happening everywhere. Sonic is running and dodging everything trying to not get hit by floating debris. Kinda like the first cutscenes of Sonic Unleashed but playable.

And that's when you finally realize...
Sonic is capable of running faster than something light cannot escape from for 30 seconds

This feels like the alternative to the drowning theme with how it's structured

This sounds like something you'd hear in RWBY. All you need is Casey-Lee William's vocals added to the mix and boom.
