In the absence of serious pressure from the US, Israel likely plans to indefinitely occupy Gaza, where settler outposts could even emerge, warns journalist and author Antony Loewenstein.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Loewenstein, who wrote The Palestine Laboratory, compared Israel’s strategy in Gaza with its approach in the occupied West Bank, where it strengthened its control of the territory for years while drawn-out peace negotiations took place.

The world has accepted long term occupation of Gaza before... And has been accepting the long term occupation of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Golan Heights for decades.
In fact, the occupation of Gaza never really ended, the only thing that changed was the presence of settlers. Military control of their water, air, coastal waters, electromagnetic spectrum, food imports, medicine imports etc never ended.

The difference is -the world now knows the true face of israel. For 75 yrs israel enjoyed impunity over it's handling of the palestinians in isreal. Today however, the world is watching what the isreali's are doing to those ppl and the world is finding it traumatizing and disturbing. The days of the world sitting back and doing nothing are over, as civil society is now putting pressure on their countries to cut ties with isreal.
