The Whale feels like this year’s King Richard: immediately has Best Actor buzz, then slowly creeps up into Best Picture

Man EEAAO is in the perfect spot right now to strategize a brilliant campaign. I still can't believe Jamie Lee Curtis isn't getting some sort of buzz to get nominated. She's been in the business her whole life and this performance is a real showcase of all her talents. The campaign writes itself. (and yes, in a perfect world they'd get both JLC and Hsu nominated - supp actress loves double dipping)

Btw Babylon will come out this year. I’ve seen a few people worried it’s getting delayed to 2023 because there’s still no trailer, but remember the trailer for West Side Story didn’t come out until September. Pretty sure this is the same thing

Elvis is Warner’s only contender this year and they’ve had at least one nominee in the last 5 years, mostly blockbusters. They are going to throw everything at it. The box office support is there and it might have a nice package of Actor, production design, costumes, make up, sound with other possibilities like editing and song. At that point how far could it be from Best Picture?

One movie that blasted my mind this year was RRR!

1. I feel like either Avatar: The Way of Water *or* Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will secure a nomination, but definitely not both. Gotta see how critics/audiences respond first

2. I'm super bearish on She Said getting a nod because I think the Academy likes to nominate a movie about Hollywood only when it glorifies Hollywood. Spotlight was different because the issue broke "out there" in Boston.

3. I'm a little stunned at how fast the buzz for Marcel the Shell has faded! At least this allows A24 to focus on pushing Everything
Everywhere.

4. Ostlund's work seems just a bit too weird to score a Best Picture nod.

What makes me wondering is this: What If they give John Williams a 6th and final Oscar, cause The Fabelmans is literally the last movie he's gonna compose (besides the new Indiana Jones movie), it might be a Thank You John Williams award, it's kinda interesting, cause somehow I don't see Justin Hurwitz winning a 3rd Oscar, don't ask why, idk myself. What do you think?😅

From what I have been reading, Babylon is so far the best script this year. I'm not saying its a lock, but its my number one for original screenplay

Along with Best Actor, Best Costume Design and Best Makeup/Hairstyling Elvis deserves more oscar nominations.

Best Cinematography- there is a video of those amazing shots
Best Film Editing- the editing during the opening concert sequence and the build up during vegas rehearsal/that’s all right are amazing
Best Sound- A) it’s Elvis B) it has amazing music mixes and edits
Best Production Design- the recreation of the real life places and stages are well done and very accurate

Actually, the Amsterdam release change seems like a good thing. It was going to be released very close to Black Panther but this probably means that the studio believes it has box office potential so they moved it up so it has almost all of October for itself. In terms of awards, I don't think Russell's controversies will matter much if the movie is well liked. Remember Bohemian Rhapsody?

Best Picture Winner: Morbius - competition from the Munsters and The King's Daughter but it's a superhero movie 🤷‍♂
Best Director: Daniel Espinosa - Morbius - I believe the academy will be focusing on the, "It's Morbin time" scene when they pick Daniel Espinosa
Best Actor winner: Pierce Brosnan - The King's Daughter - He's hot
Best Actress winner: Sheri Moon Zombie - The Munsters - A lot of competition from Kaya Scodelario and Jessica Chastain but my trusted source told me that Rob Zombie bribed the entire academy so there's that
Best Supporting Actress: Lupita Nyong'o - The 355 - I think the academy might be trying to make up for all the times she was snubbed
Best Supporting Actor: Tyrese Gibson - More diversity and besides who else would they pick
Best Original Screenplay: Morbius - The, "It's Morbin Time" line cements it's place as the greatest of all time
Best Adapted Screenplay: Morbius - What other movie will win, The Son?😂
Best Cinematography: The King's Daughter - This is a long shot but I want to spice up my predictions from predicting Morbius the entire time
Best Costume Design: The Munsters - Sheri Moon Zombie looked drop dead gorgeous in that outfit boy I'm jealous of Rob Zombie
Best Editing: Morbius - The action sequences are so fucking disorienting they're beautiful
Best Makeup & Hairstyling: The Munsters - need I say more?
Best Production Design: The Munsters - It's between this and Morbius but the academy would look bad if they pick Morbius for everything although it deserves it
Best Sound: Morbius - although the academy wouldn't want to look bad there is literally no other pick
Best Visual Effects: The Munsters - I honestly don't know whether to pick this or Morbius they're both so good fuck fuck I'll do a coin toss
Best Original Score: The King's Daughter - I won't lie this score is actually not bad
Best Original Song: It's Morbin Time - Morbius
Best Animated Feature: Marmaduke(2022) - This movie is as good as Morbius fight me
Best Documentary: Makin the Morb - Need I say more
Best International Feature: Black Crab - whoever thinks The Worst Person in The World should win should face the wrath of Morbius who's with me?

It’s fun at this time when most films have yet to come out! I’m keeping supporting actresses from The Son out for now, purely based on the play and instead I have Stephanie Hsu in my 5. I hate doing comparisons when it comes to possible nominees, but if the performance is as powerful as it could be, Zen McGrath could gain traction in a similar vein to Kodi Smit-McPhee last year. Can’t decide on my 10th spot for picture but agree on the other 9 with you. Looking forward to film festival season kicking off!

There was a screening for Women Talking in Toronto. Some people said that both Claire Foy and Jessie Buckley were stand outs. Claire Foy is playing Salome, the juiciest role in the book, Jessie is playing Mariche and Rooney is playing Ona.
