Germany's China document: A sign of Europe's changing perception, shift to New Delhi

Germany’s unveiling of a 64-page strategy document on China was dampened by a lack of concrete measures to de-risk from it.
Pessimists sighed at its ambiguity and optimists saw it as a balancing act. But it is a harbinger of the end of the golden era of Germany-China relations -- Watch Swasti Rao, Associate Fellow, Europe and Eurasia Center, at the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, explain.

Great Analysis again Dr. Swasti, I have special affection with Germany because I stayed there for 4.5 years and really felt good to see your video on Deutschland. Danke Schon. Keep shining.

What message she was trying to convey in her 13 minutes long drivel? I don't understand what she was trying to say. Is Germany decoupling from China, is Germany moving towards India, is Germany going to be a major Indo-Pacific arena player?
Or it's just the usual blabbering and meaningless words. I don't see German politicians and business leaders making a beeline to be in New Delhi as they did for going to Beijing. So overall what's the point of this 13 minutes long presentation or it was just for fulfilling some kind of quota to post something to their YT channel?

Dear ma'am,
I absolutely loved your comprehensive analysis. It yields extremely valuable insights that illuminates the nuanced nature of Germany's approach towards China which is undoubtedly crucial for navigating the complex landscape of international trade relations.

I wholeheartedly agree with your observations regarding India's potential and its strategic assertion in Balancing China while also capitalizing on the strategic advantages Germany's new approach provides. It's an ambivalent approach consisting of many loopholes but regardless it offers multiple opportunities. Especially evident in areas like energy security, where there's proficiency in recognizing sustainable development imperatives and employing innovative economic maneuvering.

Your erudite observation paves the way for a meaningful exploration of novel avenues for international collaboration and economic enhancement.

It not only sheds light on the current dynamics but also inspires the pursuit of progressive strategies.

Once again, I commend you for your insightful analysis.

Germany has no special plan. Their main business is Cars . Today China has emerged as the biggest auto exporter and their flag ship car makers r struggling to compete with Tesla and even Korean models. They r stuck between the rock and a hard place

Brilliant Analysis Swasti. The focus seems so much on US, it is heartening to see an in-depth commentary ofn Germany and its wishy-washy China policy

I had read Dr. Rao's piece on this topic earlier on The Print. The video certainly makes interaction with this brilliant thinker better.

The insights shared show Dr. Rao's command over this topic. Not many Indian thinkers / think tanks are focussed on Europe, or Europe's dealings with China. She rightfully opines that Germany's strategy is necessary but not sufficient to de-risk from China. It will be interesting to note what she thinks are the 'necessary' tactics to make it's strategy completely de-risk China.

One day this lady talks about Ukraine & Russia, another day about military matters going on there, another day about Germany, Europe, and China. To talk about so many things with such outward confidence, she has to be the most brilliant person on the planet!

Complicated language seems more like “show off”. Swasti and Praveen Swami - both suffer this challenge. Suggest they learn from Shekhar Gupta to simplify

Dr Swati,
Excellent analysis. Secondly, about the Russian invasion, I think America is responsible for the Ukraine crisis. Thirdly, the geopolitical and geo-economic situation is changing rapidly, therefore, the countries which play this Chess well will benefit otherwise it can be counter-productive.

New Delhi does NOT have a peace formula for Manipur which is a part of India. Vishwaguru = desheezero.

Mam just a review. Topics you choose are really good.
But, thoda monotonic ho jata hai aapka video, like a class lecture. Maybe you can make it more engaging.

You can take or ignore it. I would however propose few points:
1. In the beginning of the video, clearly say, what is the moral(final verdict) of the story and its impact on India. Then you can drive us to that conclusion.
2. You should decide, who you audiences are. If they are foreigner, then ok. If they are Indians, then the language could be slightly more simple.

P.S. I live in Europe. So, I thought something new/interesting would come and glad that Indians living in India might learn about the German stance. I was wrong.

Didn't learn anything from your talk. It was as vague as the German position on China.

Nope, she’s not Palki quality. Not even close.
